    REINFORCEMENT OF THE RESEARCH CAPACITY OF THE BULGARIAN INSTITUTE “BIOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY OF REPRODUCTION”

        • Information for Open Doors Days in IBIR, BAS, November 29th – 30th 2012.

          The third“Open doors”days in IBIR-BAS were organized at 29th and 30th November 2012.

          The programme included:

          • Presentation of the main results and outcomes of the FP7 ReProForce project for the period 1-36 months by the Assoc. Prof. M.Mollova, Coordinator of the project.
          • Panel discussion on the impact of the FP7 ReProForce project:

          - Deepening of the network of project partners – Prof. Katya Teerds (Wageningen University, Wageningen, Netherlands);

          - Attraction and career opportunities for young scientists

          - Increased collaboration with business environment

          - Strengthening ties with local research community

          - National support to IBIR - Ministry of Minister of Education, Youth and Sciences and Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

          • Visit to IBIR laboratories and presentation of the scientific results following the labs’ up-grade and purchase of new equipment under ReProForce and the possibilities to use the equipment by other research structures and business units in the field of biomedicine and animal breeding.

           

          More than 100 persons have participates in the “Open doors”days 2012 event including:

          ProForce Project Team; Advisory Board Representatives: Prof. Sevdelina DimitrovaVice President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), Sergej Ignatov - Minister of education, youth and sciences (address on the behalf of Ministry Board) and Lora Pavlova - Scientific Expert on Commission of Transnational Scientific Programmes (7FP); ReProForce experts - Prof. Vidjei Pandey, Prof. Mareus Sperandio, Zoya Damjanova; Prof. K. Teerds-Human and Animal Physiology Group, Department of Animal Sciences, Wageningen University, Wageningen, Netherlands, supporting partner organization in ReProForce Project;

          PhD students and specialists from IBIR-BAS and other institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, representatives of universities and research institutes in the country – internal partners in the ReProForce project, representatives of business organization such as medical centers, hospitals, Ob/Gyn centers for IVF, representatives of private animal breeding associations, students from the Biology Faculty of Sofia University “Kliment Ohridski”, teachers and students from the Veterinary Technical School, Kostinbrod, a class from “Ivan Vazov” high school with specialized teaching of biology, students from the National natural-mathematics high school and media.

          The first day was opened by the Director of IBIR prof. Dimitrina Kacheva, who greeted participants.
          -
          A complete report for the activity of the ReProForce project during the period 1-36 months was presented by assoc. prof. Margarita Mollova, the Coordinator of the project.
          - Representatives of IBIR, partner’s organizations and business organizations discussed the impact of the ReProForce project. In the discussions took part: prof Katya Teerds (Wageningen University, Wageningen, Netherlands); assoc. prof. Milena Murdjeva (IBIR-BAS), Ivan Bochev (Ob/Gyn Hospital “Dr.Shterev”, Sofia), Diana Gulenova (Private Medical Center “ReProBiomed, Sofia,), Kalina Belemezova (student in molecular biology, Biological Faculty, Sofia University), assoc.prof. Ralica Jivkova (Department of Biology, Medical University Sofia), assoc.prof. Jordan Marchev (Agriculture Institute, Shumen), assoc.prof. Stanimir Yotov (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Veterinary Faculty, Thracian University, Stara Zagora).

          - Prof. Sevdalina Dimitrova, the Vice president of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences delivered a greeting address by the name of the Executive Board of BAS to congratulate the scientists form IBIR for the European project and for the results achieved due to the equipment of the laboratories with high technology equipment and the efficient partnerships with leading European research institutes and universities. Prof. Dimitrova expressed her wishes for future scientific collaborations and successes in the unique scientific and applied activities in IBIR.

          - A special greeting address was sent b y the Minister of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science Prof. Sergei Ignatov in which he expressed his high opinion for the significance and the impact of the ReProForce project aiming enhancement of the research capacity of the Institute of Biology and Immunology of Reproduction to confirm its leading position among the countries of Southeastern Europe and its successful integration in the European scientific community.

          On the second day the scientists from IBIR demonstrated their scientific results obtained with using the equipment purchased by financing from the Project. In addition research achievements of the scientists from IBIR were presented with video film and at a special exposition of posters with results from research, presented at different international scientific meetings.
