On 01/07/2011 from 9:00 to 13:00 am in IBIR а practical training with a new spectrophotometer BMG Labtech FLUOstar OPTIMA was held, purchased with funds from the project ReProForce from the company "Biosystems" Ltd. The event was organized as part of WP2 activities of ReProForce by courtesy of the company "Biosystems" Ltd. Training was attended by 24 participants from IBIR who had the possibility to get acquainted in detail with opportunities for practical application of the device.

The training was led by a representative of "Biosystems" Ltd - Mr. Julian Dzhorev, who presented the general apparatus of this class and then discussed in detail different applications and filter-systems for quantification of fluorescence, luminescence and absorption.

The main applications of the spectrophotometer FLUOstar OPTIMA include a wide range of analysis in a microplate format, including:
• Quantification of protein, DNA and RNA.
• Immunoassays, ELISA
• Cell survival, cytotoxicity and proliferation
• Measurement of intracellular Ca2 + concentration
• Kinetics of Growth
• Enzyme activity and kinetics
• Adhesion / aggregation
• Fluorescent and luminescent analyses

Using experimental specimens provided by scientists from IBIR equilibration procedures of the different application devices for UV/Vis absorbance and fluorescence was performed.
